Term's & Conditions
Lorraine’s School of Dancing
Terms & Conditions
Effective from: September 2026
By enrolling a student at Lorraine’s School of Dancing (LSOD), parents/guardians and students agree to abide by the following Terms & Conditions.
These Terms & Conditions are in place to ensure the smooth and fair running of the school and to provide a safe, professional and positive environment for all students.
1. Enrolment & Class Places
All class places are subject to availability.
A student’s place within a class is not guaranteed until their enrolment has been confirmed by Lorraine’s School of Dancing.
Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring that all information provided to LSOD during enrolment is accurate and kept up to date.
LSOD reserves the right to refuse or withdraw a place where necessary.
2. Class Placement & Progression
Students are placed into classes according to a number of factors, including age, ability, experience, development and what the School Principal believes will be most beneficial for the individual student.
All class movements and progression are at the discretion of the School Principal.
Students will not automatically move classes based solely on age or the length of time they have attended a particular class.
Class placements are reviewed periodically throughout the academic year.
Where LSOD believes a student is ready to progress into another class, the parent/guardian will be contacted.
3. Trialling Additional Classes
Students wishing to trial an additional class should contact LSOD via email.
Trials and additional class places are subject to availability and suitability.
A trial does not automatically guarantee a permanent place within that class.
4. Fees & Payment
Class fees are set by Lorraine’s School of Dancing and may be reviewed periodically.
Parents/guardians will be informed of any changes to class fees.
Fees must be paid in accordance with the payment terms stated on your invoice or payment arrangement.
It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to ensure that their account remains up to date.
Failure to make payment may result in the student being unable to attend classes until the outstanding balance has been resolved.
5. Outstanding Fees
Any outstanding balance must be settled within the payment terms provided by LSOD.
Where an account remains outstanding, LSOD reserves the right to refer the balance to a third-party company, who may contact the account holder directly to arrange repayment or a payment plan.
Failure to maintain an agreed payment arrangement may result in the student’s place at Lorraine’s School of Dancing being temporarily suspended or terminated until the account has been settled.
LSOD reserves the right to refuse re-enrolment where previous fees remain outstanding.
6. Holidays & Planned Absences
If a student will be absent due to a pre-booked holiday or another known commitment, LSOD must be notified in writing via email with a minimum of six weeks’ notice if the absence is to be considered when calculating or amending an invoice.
The email must clearly state the dates on which the student will be absent.
Where less than six weeks’ notice is provided, LSOD cannot guarantee that fees will be amended or credited.
Notification given verbally to a teacher is not considered formal notice. All requests must be made via email.
7. General Absence
Parents/guardians should notify LSOD where possible if a student is unable to attend their usual class.
Missed classes due to illness, personal commitments or other circumstances do not automatically qualify for a refund or credit.
Students should not attend classes if they are unwell or if attending could pose a health risk to other students or staff.
8. Uniform & Dance Shoes
Students are expected to attend classes wearing the correct LSOD uniform and appropriate dance shoes for their class.
Uniform and dancewear can be ordered through the LSOD online shop.
Parents/guardians who are unsure of sizing, particularly when purchasing dance shoes, are encouraged to contact the school before ordering.
Students may be required to purchase specific costumes, footwear or accessories for performances, examinations or other school activities. Parents/guardians will be informed where this applies.
9. Hair, Jewellery & Presentation
Students must arrive appropriately presented and ready to participate in their class.
Hair should be neat, secure and appropriate for dance.
Jewellery must not be worn during classes for health and safety reasons.
Students must have the correct footwear and uniform required for their class.
Teachers reserve the right to ask a student to remove jewellery or any item considered unsafe before participating.
10. Medical Information
Parents/guardians are responsible for informing LSOD of any medical condition, allergy, injury, additional need or other information that may affect a student’s participation in classes.
Any changes to a student’s medical information must be provided to LSOD as soon as reasonably possible.
Teachers should also be made aware of any temporary injury that may affect a student’s ability to participate safely.
LSOD cannot accept responsibility where relevant medical or health information has not been disclosed.
11. Contact & Emergency Information
Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring LSOD holds accurate and current contact information.
You must notify us if you:
-
Change your home address
-
Change your telephone number
-
Change your email address
-
Change your emergency contact details
-
Need to update medical or other important information relating to the student
Updates should be provided via email.
It is essential that LSOD is able to contact a parent/guardian or nominated emergency contact in the event of an emergency.
12. Behaviour & Conduct
Students are expected to behave respectfully towards teachers, staff, fellow students and visitors.
Disruptive, aggressive, bullying, abusive or consistently inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated.
Parents/guardians are also expected to communicate respectfully with LSOD staff, teachers, students and other families.
Where behaviour is considered inappropriate or detrimental to the wellbeing, safety or enjoyment of others, LSOD reserves the right to issue a warning, suspend attendance or terminate a student’s place.
13. Health & Safety
Students must follow all reasonable instructions provided by LSOD teachers and staff.
Students should only participate in activities they have been instructed to undertake and should inform their teacher immediately if they feel unwell, experience pain or sustain an injury.
For health and safety reasons, parents/guardians must ensure students are collected promptly at the end of their class unless an alternative arrangement has been agreed with LSOD.
14. Classes, Teachers & Timetable Changes
LSOD reserves the right to make reasonable changes to:
-
Class times
-
Teachers
-
Studios or venues
-
Timetables
-
Class structures
Where possible, parents/guardians will be provided with reasonable notice of significant changes.
On occasion, a substitute teacher may teach a class due to staff illness, professional commitments or other circumstances.
15. Cancellation of Classes
In exceptional circumstances, LSOD may need to cancel or reschedule a class.
Where appropriate, LSOD may offer an alternative class, replacement session or credit.
LSOD cannot accept responsibility for circumstances outside of its reasonable control, including severe weather, venue closures, government restrictions or other unforeseen events.
16. Performances, Shows & Events
Participation in performances, shows, competitions, examinations, workshops and other events may be subject to additional requirements, fees and separate information.
Participation may also require additional rehearsals outside of a student’s usual class time.
Parents/guardians will be provided with relevant information before committing to an event.
LSOD reserves the right to make casting and performance decisions based on what it considers appropriate for the production, class or individual student.
17. Photography & Video
From time to time, Lorraine’s School of Dancing may take photographs and/or video recordings during classes, rehearsals, performances, events and other school activities. These may be used for promotional and marketing purposes, including our website, social media platforms, printed materials, advertising and other publicity relating to the school.
Unless we are informed otherwise in writing, we will assume that permission has been granted for the student to be photographed and/or filmed and for this content to be used by Lorraine’s School of Dancing for the purposes outlined above.
If you do not wish for your child to be photographed or filmed, you must notify us in writing by email. It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to inform the school of this preference and to advise us of any subsequent changes.
Where permission has not been granted, we will take reasonable steps to ensure that the student is not intentionally photographed or filmed for promotional purposes.
18. Leaving Lorraine’s School of Dancing
If a student wishes to leave LSOD or discontinue a particular class, notice must be provided in writing via email.
Any fees already due or outstanding at the point of leaving remain payable in accordance with the applicable payment terms.
Simply ceasing attendance does not automatically cancel amounts already due.
19. Communication
Important information is primarily communicated via email.
Parents/guardians are responsible for checking communications from LSOD and ensuring that the school has their correct email address.
We cannot accept responsibility for information missed because contact details have not been updated or communications have not been read.
20. Changes to These Terms & Conditions
Lorraine’s School of Dancing reserves the right to amend these Terms & Conditions when reasonably necessary.
Where significant changes are made, parents/guardians will be notified.
The most up-to-date version of the Terms & Conditions will be available on the LSOD website.
21. Acceptance of Terms
By enrolling or continuing a student’s place at Lorraine’s School of Dancing, the parent/guardian confirms that they have read, understood and agree to abide by these Terms & Conditions.
Continued attendance at LSOD following an update to these Terms & Conditions will be treated as acceptance of the updated terms.
